Reading at 'Songs of Freedom' event.

On February 25-27 at Llandudno, Grahame Davies read at the opening event of Songs of Freedom / Canu’n Rhydd, the Academi's 2005 bilingual conference. He also took part in a debate at the conference, which will interwove the history and literature of Welsh political struggle with international examples of poetry, protest, journalism and criticism. Speakers included Benjamin Zephaniah, Dafydd Elis-Thomas, Jack Mapanje, Iolo ap Dafydd, Gillian Clarke, Ned Thomas, Choman Hardi and Damian Walford Davies.

The book is divided into three sections concerning orphans and foundlings, infancy, and early childhood and include poems by Gillian Clarke, Carol Ann Duffy, Helen Dunmore, Stephen Knight, Don Paterson, Elaine Feinstein, Dannie Abse, Seamus Heaney, David Harsent, Carol Rumens, Kate Bingham, Michael Longley and George Szirtes among many other, all of whom have donated their work.
