Home-town honour at community facility.

On Friday September 12 Grahame Davies opened the library at the new Plas Pentwyn Enterprise & Lifelong Learning Centre in Coedpoeth near Wrexham. As part of the opening ceremony, Grahame Davies unveiled a portrait of himself by Lorraine Bewsey. The portrait, one of a series produced by Lorraine Bewsey for the Poets' Portraits exhibition, which toured around Wales, has been purchased by Wrexham County Borough Council for display in the library in the new centre. Grahame Davies performed a reading at the unveiling ceremony at the centre, which is in his home village only a matter of yards from the house where he was born. On the following day, he conducted two creative writing workshops at the centre. The picture shows Grahame Davies with Tom James, the Beijing 2008 Olympic gold-medal-winning rower from Coedpoeth, who performed the opening ceremony for Plas Pentwyn, together with the artist, Lorraine Bewsey, the Mayor of Wrexham, councillor David Griffiths, and Councillor Bob Dutton, OBE.
